Larry Lawyer

My family and I have been tithing members of SJD since 1993. We have been involved in the youth, children’s, adult, music, prayer and senior’s programs. I have been blessed to have been a member for 5 years and chairman for 8 years of the youth committee. My sons and I have been involved in Pack 55 and Troop 55 since 2004. Both of my sons are now Eagle Scouts. I currently serve as a merit badge counselor, a member of the Eagle Scout board of review, and as Chairman emeritus. I have held multiple volunteer positions within Scouting, teaching and training youth and adults. My sons and I have also volunteered and attended multiple 30-hour famines. I have been involved as a coordinator and a teacher of the summer Men’s Bible study for more than 10 years, a teacher of youth bible studies, and a catechesis volunteer. My wife, Alecia, and I have been small group leaders at a Faith Alive, and multiple confirmation groups, Sex, God & Me programs and small groups. My family and I attended a summer mission trip with the youth group in Belize. I have been chairman and a member of two youth director search committees, and a member of the finance committee for 10 years.
I have been blessed to be on the vestry several times, on the associate vestry, the treasurer, and the senior warden. I have led a Bible study for high school youth for 7 years every Sunday at our house. My family and I have and continue to volunteer in varying roles throughout the church, including the prayer, youth, men’s and young professional’s ministries. I have also been blessed to start a and lead a church/school partnership between SJD and Lamar High School. I feel a calling from the Holy Spirit to help work with other servant leaders in the Diocese and help Bishop Doyle, other clergy and bishops as well as other lay leaders to guide us through this next phase of growth. Specifically, coordinating and learning how best to help other Diocesan churches and serve the community. Working with and being a part of coordinating with bishop Josiah Fearon feels like an opportunity as well. Lastly, supporting the Diocesan vision, mission, and core values resonates with me especially in regard to post-covid 19 (if we can apply this moniker to 2023 onward) challenges and opportunities. On a personal note, I am a lifetime learner.
I am also concerned that maintaining and improving positive mental health is a growing concern for all of us. Consequently, I am in the middle of a master’s program at Liberty University to obtain a clinical mental health degree with the goal of becoming a licensed professional counselor. I have also attended and passed with honors a certificated biblical counseling degree from the College of Biblical Studies.

Mis dos hijos son ahora Eagle Scouts. Actualmente sirvo como consejero de insignia de mérito, miembro de la junta de revisión de Eagle Scout, y como Presidente emérito. He ocupado múltiples puestos de voluntariado dentro del escultismo, enseñando y formando a jóvenes y adultos. Mis hijos y yo también hemos sido voluntarios y hemos asistido a múltiples hambres de 30 horas. He participado como coordinador y profesor del estudio bíblico de verano para hombres durante más de 10 años, profesor de estudios bíblicos para jóvenes y voluntario de catequesis. Mi esposa, Alecia, y yo hemos sido líderes de grupos pequeños en un Faith Alive, y múltiples grupos de confirmación, programas de Sexo, Dios y Yo y grupos pequeños. Mi familia y yo asistimos a un viaje misionero de verano con el grupo de jóvenes en Belice.
He sido presidente y miembro de dos comités de búsqueda de director de jóvenes, y miembro del comité de finanzas durante 10 años. He tenido la bendición de formar parte de la junta parroquial varias veces, de la junta parroquial asociada, de la tesorería y de la junta directiva. He dirigido un estudio bíblico para jóvenes de secundaria durante 7 años todos los domingos en nuestra casa. Mi familia y yo hemos sido y continuamos siendo voluntarios en diversas funciones en toda la iglesia, incluidos los ministerios de oración, juventud, hombres y jóvenes profesionales. También he sido bendecido para iniciar y dirigir una asociación de la iglesia / escuela entre SJD y Lamar High School. Siento un llamado del Espíritu Santo para ayudar a trabajar con otros líderes siervos en la Diócesis y ayudar al Obispo Doyle, otros clérigos y obispos, así como otros líderes laicos para guiarnos a través de esta próxima fase de crecimiento. Específicamente, coordinar y aprender la mejor manera de ayudar a otras iglesias Diocesanas y servir a la comunidad. Trabajar y ser parte de la coordinación con el obispo Josiah Fearon también se siente como una oportunidad. Por último, el apoyo a la visión, la misión y los valores fundamentales de la Diócesis resuena en mí, especialmente en lo que respecta a los retos y oportunidades posteriores al covento 19 (si podemos aplicar este apodo a 2023 en adelante).
A título personal, soy una persona que aprende durante toda su vida. También me preocupa que mantener y mejorar una salud mental positiva sea una preocupación creciente para todos nosotros. En consecuencia, estoy cursando un máster en la Liberty University para obtener un título en salud mental clínica con el objetivo de convertirme en asesora profesional licenciada. También he cursado y aprobado con honores un diplomado en consejería bíblica del Colegio de Estudios Bíblicos.
